Across the street, we filled the van with gas and were on our way just before 8:00 turning onto US Hwy 70 east. Getting out of town was no trouble, but before long the road was 2 lane with little or no shoulder for the day. With roller coaster hills, curvy roads and moderate traffic, I didn't take many pictures today! My song running through my head today was the hymn, "God Will Take Care of You." Makes for comforting driving! Just beyond Camden, we came upon the Tennessee river and it's BIG bridge! Thankfully, the road widened so people could pass as Russ climbed the steep slope. LOTS of water!
Today's interesting signs were...
On a church sign: "God never consults your past to determine your future"
"Hugs for sale" with a phone number underneath it...not sure what that was all about!
My favorite sign was a street sign, the name of the road was "ULCER HOLLOW ROAD."
Who wants to live on Ulcer Hollow Road? EEEwwwwww!
Most of the day was fairly overcast, so the starting temperature was 78 degrees and was just in the mid eighties for the rest of the time on the road. Russ took a break after 28 miles in a shady area where we could pull off the road around 10:00. We weren't too far away from McEwen, TN. After the break he rode another 18 miles to Dickson, where we are spending the night. We ate lunch at Pizza Hut, then went on to the Econolodge. The clerk was somewhat flustered, they had severe thunderstorms in the area last night, the roof was damaged, they had flooding in several rooms. She felt so badly to have us wait in the lobby for a few minutes while they got our room ready. We had no problem resting on the comfy couch & chairs. Later on we really discovered why she was flustered and the extent of the problems. These are the rooms across from ours, most of the rooms down the hall looked just like this and a company was there getting the water out of the carpet. They had to move beds & furniture. Earlier there were fans & machines all the way down the hall, I didn't think of taking a picture until they had most of the machines & fans out of the hall.
This afternoon we enjoyed the pool and relaxed in the room. Tomorrow we ride into Nashville. Pray for us as we continue on Hwy 70 east, with no shoulder, lots of curves & hills make it kind of dangerous as people take risks to pass when they should not. Pray for the road to become 4 lane or have a shoulder! Once we get into Nashville, Russ will ride through part of the city on a bike path. Knowing how I feel about driving in big cities, I need some extra prayer, please!
Thank you for your encouraging comments, emails, notes & prayers. You are such a blessing to us!
Until tomorrow,
Russ & Carol
Love the interesting signs you've seen!
