The tandem ride lasted for about an hour, 17 miles, some up, some down; it was a great ride, nice road and shoulder with not too much traffic. I could definitely feel the difference in the altitude, I was breathing hard and my legs were tired...but Russ, he's not bothered with it at all! By the time Russ got back on his own bike it was 76 degrees with no wind. Just before 8 am we reached an elevation of 6000 ft.
We took a break shortly thereafter at Valle'. That's where Russ got into a fight with a bear and we saw Flintstone Village. That would have caught my attention when I was a kid!
We took another break in the shade of the pine trees at 9:45 and arrived in Tusayan at the Red Feather Lodge at 10:15. They graciously allowed us to check in early. Russ rode on to Grand Canyon National Park at 11:00 where we enjoyed walking along the south rim at Mather point, took some pictures and drove around the park.
Later, we returned to our motel, cooled off in the pool, walked to the IMAX theater down the street to see The Grand Canyon. It was really interesting, a great visual experience and the music was great! We ate dinner at Sophie's Kitchen, a delicious Mexican restaurant and now we are relaxing!
We will be around the Grand Canyon for the next 3 days enjoying the sights and taking in some activities. Russ will also be doing some riding in the next few days as well.
Thank you once again for your prayers! We feel and appreciate them!
Until we have internet connection again...BE BLESSED!
Russ & Carol
